About This Event

Please welcome and come practice with Rev. Myousin (妙心) — a nun from Kasuisai in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Rev. Myousin (妙心) is a 55-year old nun from Kasuisai in Shizuoka, Japan where she served as a shuso. Kasuisai is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple founded in 1401 and is known as one of the premier Zen training monasteries. She grew up in an ordinary household as a layperson. After turning 50, she decided to become a Buddhist nun. Before becoming a nun, she was a stressed-out workaholic and suffered from depression, but she found salvation through Zen. Based on her experience, she wants to share the greatness of zazen with others. She is interested in the differences between Zen temples in Japan and in the U.S. and is looking forward to meeting our sangha.
