Nyoze-osho Returns to Eiheiji
In 2011, Nyoze-osho became one of the first Westerners to train at Eiheiji, head training monastery of Sōtō Zen. This August, he returns to its ancient halls—this time as an honored guest—to witness a historic moment for our lineage and for Zen in Japan.

A Historic Appointment
On June 26, 2026, Hoitsu Suzuki-roshi—Abbot of Rinso-in, the Suzuki family temple—was elected Vice Abbot (Fuku-Kanshu) of Eiheiji, one of the two head training monasteries of Sōtō Zen. He is deeply honored, yet humbled by this great responsibility.

A Bridge Across Generations
Nyoze-osho was personally invited by Suzuki-roshi in 2011 to train at the monastery. Extending such an invitation to a Westerner was almost unheard of,
making Nyoze-osho one of the first to train at Eiheiji.
